Cluster headaches occur more commonly in men than women. They are a series of relatively short but extremely painful headaches that can occur every day for weeks or months at a time. This type of headache tends to occur at the same time each year, such as the spring or autumn. Because of their seasonal nature, people often mistake cluster headaches for symptoms of allergies or stress. Cluster headaches are mostly one sided although may switch sides from time to time.
Cluster headaches usually reach full intensity within 5 to 10 minutes and may last for between 30 to 60 minutes. They may recur up to 8 times in a day during severe episodes.
